Take One, Pass it On

Over the past two years, a £1m investment from The National Lottery Community Fund created protected space to test, learn and grow the conditions for community-led prevention across five Live Well Accelerator localities – Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford and Tameside.

Together residents, local authorities, voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations, and partners worked in alliance to create the conditions for healthier, more connected neighbourhoods, while contributing to a wider, community-led Live Well movement for change across Greater Manchester.

To capture the change and impact of the accelerator site work, photographers esK, Ella Mayamothi Sommeil and Saph @marybcreative led a “Take One, Pass It On” photography project across the five districts. Inspired by the nostalgia of family holidays, seaside trips and old-school photo albums, disposable cameras were passed from person to person with a simple invitation:

What has changed?

The photographs taken by those who work, live and spend time in Bolton, Salford, Rochdale, Tameside and Oldham appear here in rich colour, capturing everyday moments of hope and connection.

Alongside these are black-and-white film photographs taken by the Ella, Saph, and esK documenting what went on behind the scenes of the places and spaces where people met, organised and spent time together. Please email [email protected] for the full catalogue.

Thank you to everyone who shared their spaces, their time and their stories, and to those who captured these moments through the lens.
