The listening booth is a collaborative project between CommUNITY Little Hulton, Bridgewater Foundation, Salford Museum and Art Gallery, local activist Teresa Pepper, organiser esK and local documentarians Bethan Kelly and Maisie Thompson to facilitate free play across the area, and to record stories of play.

During the 100 days of activity project across Little Hulton and Walkden, a van that became increasingly dappled in hand-prints made its way around the area asking people to share their stories of play. Supported by local artists, activists, charities, and Salford Museum and Art Gallery (SMAG) the listening van was able to facilitate free play using games from the past from SMAG handling collection, contemporary games brought by other collaborators, and, of course, the opportunity to slap your hand on the van.
During these moments of play participants were asked to share their stories of play and to reflect upon how play has changed throughout the years. These stories were audio-recorded using a binaural microphone and are currently being edited to create an audio soundscape of play.
